Project Empower is a process designed by Joy Bergfalk for healing trauma and life wounds through a holistic approach using a multidisciplinary approach. Initially there are six modules of four weeks each that build upon one another. It is designed so that those moving ahead in the process become mentors for those entering the process, thereby offering leadership training for those who show ability in this area.
Project Empower is a unique learning, healing experience for women from all walks of life:
- General population
- Women in recovery from drugs and alcohol
- Women at the margins of society (beginning at Cameron Community Ministries in Rochester)
Purpose of Project Empower
- Healing life wounds and trauma for participants, leaders, and mentors
- Formation of nurturing Community which is non-hierarchical
- Learning for those at all levels of the process, including a mutual learning process between participants, leaders, and mentors. This will also include a research component.
- Training for those with calling and ability as they move through the process themselves.
- Empowerment for interdependence. Women will not only be recipients of healing modalities but will learn them for themselves and others.
- Commitment to find what works and does not work in bringing healing to women of all walks of life, however long that takes!
Some of the modalities that will be used in Project Empower are: centering, the labyrinth, spiritual direction, counseling, communication skills, Reiki, the Enneagram, focusing, negotiation of memories.
Joy will be assisted by Mary Kay Hausladen, LMSW, in research and other parts of the programs.
Grant funding is pending. Much support will be needed by the community. If you are interested in learning more about this important project or would like to support it in some way, please contact Joy Bergfalk.
